National Forestry Authority Interpretation Center

The National Forestry Authority launched a national scholar program by creating an Interpretation Centre for Risk of Fire. The old buildings were built in “Estado Novo” era and were used to host the Guard and his family. Built all over Portugal for forest conservation and observation, this renovated equipment gets now a new function and its open for school visits. Students can role-play in the outside area a game they have in their classrooms, learning fire hazards and how authorities deal with this problem. The program was the preservation of the old building, designing and organizing spaces for new facilities to accommodate multimedia information rooms and storage. New construction adopts regular shapes and neutral materials, using volume scale to integrate and preserve the old building formal language.
