Drysuit Building – Fitness Centre

The Fitness Centre design explores the integration of low-cost materials with alternative programmatic answers. Its light steel frame structure and natural cork cladding allowed a quick and effective construction. The different textures mimic the surrounding nature, while slight variations in shape, created by the twisting of the curved surface alongside the rhythm of the vertical elements, melt the building into its background. The excavation material became the inner pavement and was fabricated “on site”, enhancing the overall natural atmosphere. In the same way a “dry suit” keeps one dry and safe in a hostile environment, cork panels play here as a second skin and keep the project “safe”, as well as being part of the economical and water-free construction method.
